A meeting between the Ambassador of Turkey to Sri Lanka, Dr. Semih Lütfü Turgut, and the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government, Professor A.H.M.H. Abayarathne, was held recently at the Parliament complex in Sri Jayawardenepura.
Responding to the Minister's request for support from the Turkish government to reconstruct schools in the Puttalam District damaged by Cyclone Ditva, the Ambassador expressed the Turkish government's support for the reconstruction efforts. He further stated that he intends to visit the affected areas in the future to inspect the damaged schools. Furthermore, the Ambassador expressed the willingness of the Turkish government to provide support in order to provide solutions for the issues faced by people in areas experiencing drinking water problems.
In addition, both parties exchanged views regarding a joint program between the educational institutions of the two countries to enhance educational cooperation between Turkey and Sri Lanka. The need for a program to cooperate toward the economic, social, and cultural development of both countries was also discussed during this meeting.
Ms. Rumeysa Akcin, the Third Secretary of the Embassy of Turkey in Sri Lanka, also participated in this occasion.
