A policy decision has been taken to confirm minor employees serving in local government institutions who have not been confirmed in service and discussions are being held with the Treasury to take the necessary steps in that regard, and action will be taken accordingly, said the Prime Minister and Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena. He said this in reply to a question raised by the Member of Parliament, Mr. Dayasiri Jayasekara, in Parliament on 16.11.2023.
He stated that there are about 13,000 minor employees who have been serving like this for eight years, and since they are paid salaries by the respective local government bodies, the government will not have to incur any cost for confirming the appointments of these employees.
Further he stated:
"This question has been answered before. We are currently looking into this matter and holding discussions with the Treasury to confirm the appointments of this group of employees. The employees in certain local government institutions are within their cadre, but in other places the employees are in excess. Therefore, a policy decision has already been taken to settle this issue. We will take the rest of the necessary steps."
