Mr. S. Aloka Bandara, who is a senior officer in the Administrative Service was appointed as the Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government of the new government on the 19th of November and he assumed duties at the ministry on the same day. Previously he held the office of Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils, Local Government and Labour.

The Sri Lanka Scientific Service held its second annual conference ceremoniously on the 25th of this month at the Nila Medura auditorium, Colombo. The theme of this two-day conference was "Nation Building through Integral Research." This conference, organized by the Scientific Service Division of the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, was attended by public officers representing the scientific service at an island-wide level.

A group of high-profile public officers representing the public service in Nepal are currently engaged in a study of the public service in Sri Lanka. This group of officers, who were engaged yesterday in a study of the services provided by the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration with the objective of making the public service in this country more efficient, visited the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government today (23). On this occasion, the Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. S. Alokabandara, made the Nepalese officers aware of the trainings and programmes that have been initiated by the Ministry of Public Administration for the delivery of an efficient public service. ..

Korea International Cooperation Agency has extended its support for a special project for disposing the urban solid waste, which is generated in Uva and Northern provinces, in an environment friendly manner. The expected amount to be spent for this project is USD 10.6 Million. The total amount is a grant of the Korean government to Sri Lanka.
