Sri Lanka Librarians’ Service

Recruitment to Sri Lanka Librarians Service is made purely from those who become qualified at an interview for verification of qualifications the basis of the results of a competitive examination conducted by the Commissioner General of Examination on behalf of Director General of Combined Services. 70% of the total vacancies is recruited on the basis of open stream and 30% on limited basis.

On open basis

Educational Qualifications

Shall have passed six (06) subjects with Credit passes for Sinhala/ Tamil/ English, Mathematics and two other subjects at General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination at one sitting: and

Shall have passed all the subjects in General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination at one sitting. (It is sufficient to have passed 03 subjects at one sitting under the old syllabus)

Professional Qualifications

Shall have obtained a three-year Diploma in Library Science from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission.

Shall have obtained the three - year Diploma in Library Science from Sri Lanka Library Association.

Shall have obtained a higher qualification than the qualifications indicated in (a) and (b) above relevant to Library Science.

(Such qualifications shall be determined by the Director General of Combined Services communicating with the Authorities of the Universities and Sri Lanka Library Association)

On limited basis

Grade of recruitment: Librarian Grade III

Educational Qualifications:

Shall have passed six (06) subjects including Sinhala/ Tamil/ English and Mathematics with at least two Credit passes at General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination at not more than two sittings.

Educational Qualifications:

Shall have completed the first year of the three-year Diploma in Library Science offered by a university recognized by the University Grants Commission.

Shall have completed the first year of the three-year Diploma in Library Science offered by Sri Lanka Library Association.

Experience :

Shall have been confirmed in the post of Library Assistant/ Library Employee of departmental, primary, non-skilled (PL-01) Service Category and completed an active service period of 10 years in the said post.

If the candidates have completed at least one of the Diploma courses mentioned in the professional qualifications and obtained the Diploma Certificate, it is sufficient for them to have been confirmed in the post of Library Assistant/ Library Employee of departmental, primary, non-skilled (PL-01) Service Category and have completed an active and satisfactory service period of 05 years immediately preceding the due date indicated in the notification for calling applications.
